Susyn Schweers, an award-winning editor, reporter and photographer, is associate editor with Washington Business Journal. She assigns and edits stories for the news department. She formerly was small business editor with the Business Journal, assigning and editing trend/analysis stories for Small Business Strategies, a weekly section designed to give entrepreneurs tips and insight on the local business climate. Before joining Washington Business Journal in May 1998, she spent three years as associate editor and senior reporter with Johnson County Business Times, a weekly business magazine in the Kansas City market. She started her career as a general assignment reporter/photographer at a weekly paper in Cameron, Mo. (population 5,000, including the prisoners). She graduated from University of Missouri's School of Journalism in 1993, and has covered topics ranging from real estate to sports business to hospitality. She grew up in Syracuse, NY.
