Survey: Net Ad Sales Reps Inexperienced, Disillusioned
[May 5, 1998] Sixty-seven percent of Internet ad sales reps have less
than two years of Internet experience, according to a survey by
Leslie Laredo, president of the Laredo Group, an ad sales training,
research and online revenue generation consulting company.
article also gives statistics on compensation and, most ominously, the
answer to the question, "[is] interactive ad sales...a growing industry
with plenty of opportunity for the future?" Nearly half the respondents
said no.
(At last night's New Media Society event, one of the speakers, from a major
newspaper's Web site, mentioned that they don't even try to couple print
and on-line advertising packages, since, at a tiny percentage of the total
cost, e.g., a few thousand dollars for some tens of thousands of views,
compared to $100M in print, the customers just want the paper to throw in
the on-line exposure gratis.)
